Privacy policy

Last updated: 15/06/2026

Quinlans Auto Spares ("we", "us", "our") operates this store and website (the "Services"), powered by Shopify. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you visit, use, or make a purchase through the Services, or otherwise communicate with us.

We are committed to handling your personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). [Note: businesses with annual turnover under $3 million are currently exempt from most Privacy Act obligations unless specific exceptions apply. We choose to follow the APPs as good practice regardless of whether the exemption applies to us, and this may become mandatory as reforms to the Act progress.]

By using the Services, you acknowledge you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.

Personal information we collect

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:

  • Contact details — name, billing/shipping address, phone number, email address
  • Financial information — payment details processed through Shopify Payments or other payment providers (we do not store full card numbers ourselves)
  • Account information — username, password, preferences
  • Transaction information — items viewed, purchased, returned, or exchanged, and order history
  • Communications — anything you tell us via email, phone, or contact forms
  • Device and usage information — IP address, browser type, and how you interact with the Services

How we collect it

  • Directly from you — when you create an account, place an order, or contact us
  • Automatically — through cookies and similar technology when you use the site
  • From service providers — including Shopify (our platform), our payment processor, and ShipStation (our shipping and fulfilment provider)
  • From third parties — where relevant, e.g. delivery partners confirming a shipment

How we use your information

We use your personal information to:

  • Process orders, payments, returns, and exchanges, and arrange local pickup or freight delivery
  • Create and manage your account, and remember your preferences
  • Communicate with you about orders, enquiries, or customer support
  • Send marketing communications where you have opted in (in line with the Spam Act 2003 — you can unsubscribe at any time)
  • Detect and prevent fraud, and keep the Services secure
  • Comply with our legal obligations, including responding to lawful requests from authorities

How we disclose your information

We may share personal information with:

  • Shopify, which hosts and powers our store and processes data on our behalf
  • Payment processors (e.g. Shopify Payments) to process transactions
  • ShipStation and delivery/freight partners, to fulfil and ship your order
  • Other service providers who support our business (e.g. Google Analytics, Meta/Facebook Pixel, or similar tracking)
  • Authorities or third parties where required by law, or to protect our rights or the safety of others
  • A buyer or successor, in the event of a business sale or restructure

We do not sell your personal information.

Overseas disclosure

Some of the providers we use (including Shopify and associated payment and analytics infrastructure) may store or process personal information on servers located outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles, including relying on our providers' contractual and security commitments.

Data security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We retain personal information only as long as needed to provide the Services, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

Data breaches

If we become aware of a data breach likely to result in serious harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, where it applies to us.

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you may:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you and request access to it
  • Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, out of date, or incomplete
  • Opt out of marketing communications at any time via the unsubscribe link in our emails, or by contacting us directly
  • Ask us questions about how your information is handled

We will respond to requests within a reasonable time. We may need to verify your identity before actioning a request.

Children's data

The Services are not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the store, remember your preferences, and understand how customers use our site. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though this may affect how the Services function.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or in the law. We'll post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date.
